These tips improve your xp performances

  • Go back to the Windows Classic look: Do you prefer the Windows Classic look or find it easier to get around with what you are used to? It's easy to make WinXP have that Win9x look. Right-click on your desktop, and then click Properties. Click the Appearance tab. On the Windows and Buttons menu, select Windows Classic. Click OK.

  • Rollback a device driver: WindowsXP has made it easy to go back to a previous driver if you install a new one that doesn't work. Right click on My Computer Select Properties Click on the Hardware tab Click on the Device Manager button Go to the device you want to reconfigure Click on the Driver tab Click on the Roll Back Drive button.

  • Display the QuickLaunch toolbar: After installing XP, many people are dissappointed to find their QuickLaunch toolbar missing. Don't panic... simply Right click on an open area of the toolbar Select Toolbars Select Quick Launch

  • Enable system restore: Have you previously disabled system restore through the Group Policy Editor and changed your mind? You can re-enable it again by following the steps below. Run the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) Go to Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / System Restore Set Turn off System Restore and Turn off Configuration to Disable Right click on My Computer Select Manage Go to Services and Applications / Services Scroll down to System Restore Service Set it for Automatic Click on the Start button to start the service Close down this window Go back to the Group Policy Editor and configure both to Not configured. Now when you right click on My Computer, there should be a tab for System Restore and you can configure how much space will be used.

  • Use the address bar to quickly launch programs: With Windows XP Professional you can easily launch your favorite programs using the Address bar. You will need to add the Address bar to the taskbar on the bottom of your desktop, and then you will be able to launch programs simply by entering their names in the Address bar. Anything you would normally enter in the Run box on the Start menu can be entered in the Address bar. You can also use the Address bar to quickly go to Web pages. To add the Address bar to the taskbar: Right click an empty area on the taskbar. Point to Toolbars, and then click Address. Open the Address bar by double-clicking it.

  • No to all: When overwriting files in the Windows Explorer, there is an option for Yes To All. This would overwrite any files you would normally be prompted for. To have No To All, simply hold down the Shift key while you click on the No option.

  • Disable Error Reporting: By default, WindowsXP will request to report application errors to Microsoft. To turn this off: Right click on the My Computer icon on the desktop Select Properties / Advanced Click on the Error Reporting tab Check Disable error reporting .

  • Open Windows explorer in C:/ by default: Since Windows Explorer automatically opens the My Documents folder you could change it to get to the folders what you want it to at first. Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>Right Click Windows Explorer>>Properties>>Under Target field delete the line that is already there and type in C:\ and click ok. Now you can view all folders instead of just My Documents.
